AOL to dig for gold – literally

AOL will do anything to get the money owed from a spam settlement – including digging for gold.

And it’s not that cool cursed gold from “Pirates of the Caribbean”, either. The increasingly sad ISP will be digging for gold and platinum bars it believes may be buried near a home in Medfield, Mass.

The property belongs to the parents of Davis Wolfgang Hawke, who owes AOL $12.8 million after losing a spam case in U.S. District Court last year. Hawke is on the lam, AOL wants its money and Hawke’s parents are PO’d.

“I don’t care if they dig up the entire yard. They’re just going to make fools of themselves,” said Peggy Greenbaum, Hawke’s mother. “There’s absolutely no reason for them to think that Davis Hawke would be stupid enough to bury gold on our property. My son is long gone.”

Even though Mrs. Hawke above says she doesn’t care if they dig up the yard, she must care a little as she and her husband are trying to stop AOL’s plans, which include bulldozers and geological teams.

In response, AOL said it will try to accommodate Hawke’s parents by not being too obtrusive. They’re bringing in bulldozers and geologists. How can they not be?
